Rattlers Stop Clinton Win Streak

CLINTON, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers ended a week's worth of wins for the Clinton LumberKings on Monday night. Wisconsin beat Clinton 9-6 at Alliant Energy Field to end the seven game winning streak of the LumberKings. Kentrail Davis had three hits and two RBI to pace Wisconsin's 12-hit attack. Khris Davis and Chris Dennis added home runs for Wisconsin.

Khris Davis made his presence known almost immediately in the game. Davis, who had been away from the team for three games for the funeral of his grandfather, hit a long home run in the top of the second. Davis's seventeenth dinger of the season gave the Rattlers (45-66 overall, 19-24 second half) a 1-0 lead.

Clinton (60-51, 23-19) answered in the bottom of the second. Mickey Wiswall and Blake Ochoa hit back-to-back home runs with two outs and the LumberKings were up 2-1. The LumberKings added a run in the third inning on an RBI single by James Jones.

Then, Kentrail Davis singled to start the Rattlers fourth. One out later Khris Davis drew a one out walk on four pitches from Clinton starter Nick Czyz. Dennis stepped up and took the first two pitches out of the strike zone. Czyz grooved the 2-0 pitch an Dennis crushed it over the fence in right. The three-run homer put the Rattlers up 4-3.

Wisconsin wasn't done. In the fifth, Kentrail Davis stepped to the plate with two runners on and lined a double off the wall in right to drive in two runs. Then, Davis stole third and scored on a wild throw. That put the Rattlers up 7-3.

Then, the teams traded runs. Wisconsin scored a run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Scooter Gennett. Clinton would get a run on a sacrifice fly by Ochoa in the bottom of the seventh. Dennis scored on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth. Nick Franklin's RBI grounder in the bottom of the eighth made the score 9-5 with Wisconsin in the lead.

Hiram Burgos was the starting pitcher for the Rattlers. He went seven innings and allowed four runs while striking out four.

Closer Jon Pokorny entered the game in a non-save situation for the bottom of the ninth inning. He gave up a leadoff homer to Vinnie Catricala. Then, he retired the next three batters without incident.

The Timber Rattlers and LumberKings conclude their series on Tuesday night. Eric Arnett (0-9, 6.54) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Erasmo Ramirez (9-4, 2.54) is set to start for Clinton. Game time is 7:00pm. You can tune in for the broadcast of the game on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:40pm.
