Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels downed the Beloit Snappers by the score of 5-2 on Monday afternoon at Perfect Game Field in Cedar Rapids. Kernels starter Buddy Boshers (2-0) was perfect for five innings until giving up two runs on a walk and two doubles in the sixth inning.
Boshers allowed two runs on two hits, walked one and struck out four over five-plus innings for the win. Carson Andrew gave up a hit and a walk over three innings of relief and Johnny Hellweg struck out two in the ninth for his 14th save. Beloit starter Tom Stuifbergen (5-1) took the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits over 4.2 IP.
The Kernels rapped out 10 hits in the game, led by Jose Jimenez going 3-4 with a double and two runs scored and Matt Long going 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Randal Grichuk went 2-4 with a solo home run, his fifth of the year, to lead off the eighth inning and Michael Wing was 1-2 with 2 RBI. Wang Wei Lin was 1-3 for Beloit with a double and 2 RBI.
