Dennis, Davis Rattle Kings as Streak Ends

August 9, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - A three-run homer by Chris Dennis erased a 3-1 Clinton lead and a two-run double by Kentrail Davis pushed the game out of reach as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers snapped the LumberKings' seven-game winning streak with a 9-6 win at Alliant Energy Field. The Kings lost despite getting home runs from Mickey Wiswall, Blake Ochoa and Vinnie Catricala.

Khris Davis lead off the second with a solo home run to left off left-hander Nick Czyz, but the LumberKings quickly took a 2-1 lead in the second. With two outs, Wiswall turned a Hiram Burgos pitch around into the Lumber Lounge for his first home run with Clinton, tying the score at 1-1. Ochoa then went back-to-back with Wiswall, lifting off to deep left for his sixth of the year.

An RBI single by James Jones that extended his RBI streak to seven games and his hitting streak to eight games pushed the lead to 3-1 in the third, but the scale would tip to Wisconsin shortly thereafter.

Czyz put both Davis's on base with one out in the fourth before surrendering Dennis's drive to right. The 14th home run of the year for Dennis suddenly put the Rattlers ahead, 4-3.

Left-hander Jose Jimenez would come on for the fifth and would also struggle. He allowed singles to Michael Marseco and Cutter Dykstra, setting the table for Davis's two-run double off the wood wall in right. A stolen base and an error by Ochoa on a throw to third would score Davis for a 7-3 Wisconsin lead.

The teams then traded runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Catricala belted a solo homer over the wall in left - his 13th of the year - off Rattlers' closer Jon Pokorny in the ninth inning to cut the deficit to three runs, but Pokorny was able to retire the next three hitters to end the game.

Czyz (L, 3-3) gave up four runs over 4.0 innings, all as a result of two home runs. Jimenez allowed three more - two earned - over 1.0 inning, while right-hander Taylor Lewis yielded two more over 3.0 innings. Only right-hander Forrest Snow pitched scoreless baseball, working one inning.

Burgos (W, 4-5) won despite four runs and two homers allowed over 7.0 innings for Wisconsin.

Jones (2-for-4, RBI), Catricala (2-for-4, HR, RBI) and Mario Martinez (1-for-4) were all able to extend hitting streaks to eight games in the loss for Clinton. Ochoa (2-for-3, 2 RBI) also had a solid night at the plate.

Kentrail Davis finished 3-for-5 with two RBI to lead the Rattlers' 12-hit attack, while Dennis also had a big night with three RBI on 2-for-4 hitting.

The LumberKings (23-19) wrap up the four-game series against Wisconsin (19-24) tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (9-4, 2.54) will make his 18th start of the season in the finale. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at www.lumberkings.com.
