Syracuse Mets News Release
Indianapolis, IN - Rubén Tejada had three hits and four RBIs for Syracuse on Tuesday night as the Mets beat the Indianapolis Indians, 5-2, at Victory Field. The Mets have now won four straight games and five of their last six games since the All-Star break ended.
Syracuse (47-48) picked up right where it left off Monday in the top of the first inning on Tuesday. Rajai Davis led off with a triple on the game's first pitch. Danny Espinosa then grounded out back to the mound, but Davis scored on the play to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
Indianapolis (47-47) tied the game in the bottom of the second. Will Craig hit Syracuse starter Drew Gagnon's first pitch of the inning over the left-field fence, squaring the score, 1-1.
Gagnon helped his own cause in the fifth, singling with one out. Travis Taijeron then walked, and the runners moved up to second and third base on a groundout. Tejada followed with a two-out, two-run single to center field to put Syracuse up, 3-1.
The Indians got a run back in the sixth. Cole Tucker led off with a double, and three batters later, Will Craig singled to left field to score Tucker and bring the Tribe within one, 3-2.
The Mets quickly answered in the seventh though. Gagnon again started a rally with a one-out double. Espinosa then was hit by a pitch, putting runners at first and second base. Tejada again found a two-run hit, this time a double to left-center field, to extend the Syracuse lead to three, 5-2.
Gagnon was stellar on the mound for Syracuse. The 29-year-old allowed just two runs and five hits in six innings pitched while striking out four batters. Mets relievers Paul Sewald, Daniel Zamora, and Tyler Bashlor each pitched a scoreless inning for Syracuse to secure the win. The Mets bullpen has now gone 12 and 2/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.
Syracuse and Indianapolis continue their four-game series with the third game on Wednesday afternoon. LHP Anthony Kay is scheduled to throw for the Mets opposite RHP Eduardo Vera for the Indians. First pitch is slated for 1:35 p.m.
