Taylor Does It Again As LumberKings One Hit Bees

July 5, 2016 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - Last night, Logan Taylor broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run to left field. Tonight, he put on a near repeat performance, as with the game scoreless in the bottom of the seventh, Taylor fired a laser beam over the left field wall for his second home run in as many nights, giving the LumberKings a 1-0 lead. Clinton starter Pablo Lopez was brilliant, allowing just one hit over seven innings, as the LumberKings (50-33, 11-2) blanked the Burlington Bees (35-48, 5-8) 1-0 on Tuesday night, recording their 11th shutout of the year and their third in the second half. Clinton has now won four straight and 11 of their last 13.

Pablo Lopez (4-0) started off the game with a perfect first, but showed poise in the face of adversity in the second inning. After allowing a leadoff double to Jared Foster on an 0-2 pitch, Lopez came back to strike out Michael Pierson, Ranyelmy Alberto, and Alexis Rivera in order to end the inning.

Burlington starter Jose Rodriguez was just as good through his first five innings, as he allowed only three hits. Clinton's best chance to score against him came in the fourth, as Alex Jackson smashed a one out single to left. On the play, left fielder Alexis Rivera tried to bare hand the ball and it rolled over his hand and to the wall, advancing Jackson to second. Rodriguez then got Gus Craig to strike out swinging and Logan Taylor to ground out to short to end the inning.

After the double to Foster, the only other base runners Lopez allowed were walks to Michael Hermosillo and Webster Rivas. Lopez retired the last seven he faced, recording his fifth straight quality start and his sixth overall. Lopez has gone at least seven innings in three of his last four starts.

After Jhonny Polanco threw a scoreless sixth inning, sidearm lefty Tyler Watson (2-3) entered for the seventh. Watson got Gus Craig to strike out looking, but Logan Taylor delivered as he turned on an inside fastball and rocketed it over the left field fence for his fifth home run of the year and his second in as many nights. For Taylor, four of his five home runs have come against Burlington.

Joe Pistorese came in for the eighth, and retired all six batters he faced, recording the two inning save, his first of the year. The LumberKings look for their fifth straight win tomorrow as they send Jeffeson Medina (0-4, 5.54) to the hill against Burlington's Luis Pena (2-4, 2.23).
