Bees Suffer Independence Day Defeat

(Clinton-IA) - The Burlington Bees (37-45) were held to just one run in a 2-1 loss to the Clinton LumberKings (49-33) on Monday night, at Ashford University Field, in Clinton, Iowa.

Angelo Amendolare started the night with a lead off single to center and then moved to second on an error on a pick off attempt. After a strike out, Jared Foster singled to right, placing runners at the corners. Ranyelmy Alberto gave the Bees the lead by grounding a single into right, scoring Amendolare, putting the Bees on top 1-0.

Clinton tied the game in the fourth. Gus Craig started the inning by lining a double to right center. After a strikeout, Craig stole third, putting the tying run 90 feet away with one out. Ricky Eusebio tied the game with a groundout, scoring Craig, making the score 1-1.

After both teams traded scorless innings, the LumberKings took the lead in the eighth. Logan Taylor led off the inning with a solo homerun to left, putting the LumberKings on top, 2-1.

Bees starting pitcher Austin Robichaux tossed five innings in his return to the Bees, striking out seven batters, allowing just one run in a no decision. Mike Kaelin made his Bees' debut as well, throwing two scoreless frames. Ranyelmy Alberto and Angelo Amendolare picked up a pair of hits each while Michael Hermosillo had three hits in the loss. LumberKings' reliever Kyle Wilcox (3-4) picked up the win while Eric Karch (0-3) was charged with the loss. Matt Walker (2) earned the save.

The Bees and the LumberKings continue the series on Tuesday night, at 6:30, at Ashford University Field in Clinton. Jose Rodriguez makes the start for the Bees against Pablo Lopez for the LumberKings.
