Dayton Dragons News Release

Lansing, Mich.-The Lansing Lugnuts enjoyed two big innings on the way to a 12-5 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Monday night. The game was the opener to a four-game series in Lansing.

The Dragons led the game 3-2 before Lansing scored five runs in the sixth inning to pull ahead 7-3. After the Dragons cut the deficit to 7-5, Lansing scored one run in the seventh and then added four more in the eighth to close out the scoring.

The Dragons collected 11 hits in the game including seven extra base hits. New Dragons third baseman Nick Senzel, the Reds first round pick in the June draft, went 3 for 5 with two doubles, a stolen base, and two runs scored. After three games with the Dragons, Senzel is batting .429 with a slugging percentage of .714. Four of his six hits have been doubles.

Also contributing to the Dragons attack on Monday was second baseman Shed Long, who had a two-run single and three walks. Shane Mardirosian contributed a two-run triple, and Luis Gonzalez had an RBI double. Mitch Piatnik had two hits including a triple.

Despite the Dragons high number of extra base hits, the difference in the game came on opportunities with men in scoring position. The Dragons were just 2 for 16 in those situations while Lansing was 10 for 20.

Dragons starting pitcher Ty Boyles was not involved in the decision. He worked four innings and allowed two runs on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts. The loss was charged to reliever Mike Sullivan (0-2), who worked one-third of an inning, surrendering four runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout. Dragons relievers had a tough night as they combined to go four innings and allow 10 runs. The 12 runs scored by Lansing represented a new season high for a Dragons opponent.

The Dragons (3-8, 24-57) and Lugnuts (8-4, 44-38) will meet again on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. in Lansing. Austin Orewiler (2-6, 2.96) will start for the Dragons against Lansing's Tayler Saucedo (3-7, 5.28).

All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.
