Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Elieser Hernandez matched a career-high with ten strikeouts in a 9-1 win over the Beloit Snappers on Independence Day in front of 5,313 fans at Modern Woodmen Park. The righty allowed just one hit in an eight-inning winning effort. Kristian Trompiz knocked his first homer of the season while Myles Straw and Connor Goedert each collected three hits in the series-opening victory.

Hernandez (4-2) took the victory in dominating fashion. The Venezuelan allowed one hit, a single from Michael Martin to lead off the fourth, and threw 67 strikes in a 101-pitch outing. Hernandez equaled his career-high with ten strikeouts, which was set last year on July 4 in a start for the Tri-City ValleyCats (New York-Penn League) against the Lowell Spinners.

Straw jump-started the Bandits' offense with a lead off single in the first. Dexture McCall later singled him home with a two-out base knock up the middle to give Quad Cities (6-6, 37-44) a 1-0 lead over the Snappers (6-6, 38-43).

Goedert slapped a one-out single in the second and Trompiz connected for a two-run blast onto the left field berm to give the Bandits a 3-0 advantage.

Quad Cities added insurance in the fourth frame. Goedert led off with his second hit of the game, a double, and was driven home on a two-out single from Straw to make it 4-0 Bandits.

Anthony Hermelyn was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh to score Arturo Michelena and put Quad Cities on top 5-0.

The River Bandits plated four more runs in the eighth as all nine hitters came to the dish. Goedert started the frame with a single and scored on a triple from Trompiz. A fielder's choice from Straw and walks to Osvaldo Duarte and Kyle Tucker loaded the bases. McCall notched a season-high in RBIs with a two-run single and Hermelyn followed with a run-scoring double to give Quad Cities a 9-0 advantage.

The combined shutout bid ended in the ninth as the Snappers found the scoreboard. Edwin Diaz singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly, but Makay Nelson would get Trace Loehr to ground out and send the Bandits to the 9-1 victory.

RHP Michael Murray (3-2) took the loss for Beloit in his five-inning start. The Florida-native gave up four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out three.

RHP Jose Hernandez (1-2, 3.41) takes to the mound for the River Bandits on Tuesday night. The Snappers counter with RHP Dustin Hurlbutt (1-0, 2.52) in the 7:00 p.m. first pitch. You can catch the broadcast with Jake Levy and Lance Ragland, starting with the LLOYD Agencies Pregame Show at 6:45 p.m. on 1170 AM K-BOB, riverbandits.com and the TuneIn app
