Dayton Dragons News Release
Lansing, Mich.-The Lansing Lugnuts built a 7-1 lead over the first two innings and held on to defeat the Dayton Dragons 7-3 on Tuesday night. The Lugnuts have won the first two games of the four-game series.
The Dragons opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Shed Long singled, stole second, and scored on Kevin Franklin's two-out single to make it 1-0. But Lansing answered with four runs in the bottom of the first and then added three more in the second to take a 7-1 lead.
The Dragons pushed across a single run in the sixth and then got a solo home run from Mitch Piatnik in the seventh to make it 7-3. They had runners at first and third in the eighth but came away scoreless in the inning after back-to-back strikeouts by Luis Gonzalez and Reydel Medina. The Dragons were retired in order in the ninth.
Dragons starting pitcher Austin Orewiler (2-7) endured a rough beginning to his start and was charged with the loss. He allowed seven runs over the first two frames before working three straight scoreless innings. Orewiler tossed five innings and allowed seven runs (four earned) on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Reliever Jordan Ramsey replaced Orewiler and finished the game. Ramsey, in just his second game with the Dragons, fired three shutout innings without allowing a hit. He walked three and struck out one.
The Dragons collected 10 hits, reaching double-figures in hits for the second straight night. Kevin Franklin and Brantley Bell each went 3 for 4. Franklin had an RBI while Bell had a double. Piatnik's home run was the second of his professional career.
The Dragons (3-9, 24-58) meet the Lugnuts (9-4, 45-38) again on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. in Lansing. Jose Lopez (5-7, 3.32) will start for the Dragons against Lansing's Jon Harris (7-1, 2.49).
All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.
