August 2, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Storm Chasers right fielder Brett Phillips and third baseman Erick Mejia each crushed solo home runs, however Rainiers right fielder Jake Fraley smashed a go-ahead three-run roundtripper in the seventh inning of Tacoma's 5-2 win over Omaha on Thursday evening at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Washington.
Phillips put the Storm Chasers on the board early with his solo blast in the opening frame, while Mejia mashed his second longball in as many nights in the sixth to open the advantage to 2-0. The Rainiers, however, answered with a two-run sixth powered by DH Jaycob Brugman 's two-run homer. One inning later, Fraley slammed his three-run shot to put Tacoma ahead for good.
Brugman (3-4, R, HR, 2 RBI) posted a game-high three knocks, with Fraley and 3B Daniel Castro (2-4, 2B) adding multi-hit efforts as well. Phillips and Mejia recorded two of Omaha's three hits, with LF Jorge Bonifacio 's double the only other knock tallied by a Storm Chasers batter. It was the 11th time an Omaha hitter has gone deep in consecutive games over the course of the 2019 campaign, with C Nick Dini most recently accomplishing that feat between July 17-18.
Rainiers starter Nabil Crismatt (6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 8 K) did not factor in the final decisions despite a quality outing, while reliever Brandon Brennan (1.0 IP, K) earned his first win. Tacoma relievers Darin Gillies (1.0 IP, 3 K) and Aaron Northcraft (1.0 IP, 2 K) received a hold and save, respectively, for their efforts, while Storm Chasers soutpaw Foster Griffin (6.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, BB, K) suffered the defeat.
Omaha continues their road trip by starting a four-game road series versus the Reno Aces this evening. First pitch is scheduled for 9:05pm CT at Greater Nevada Field.
The Storm Chasers return home to Werner Park on Wednesday, August 7 to start a seven-game homestand. First pitch of the series opener versus the Salt Lake Bees is set for 7:05pm CT.
Tickets for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home contests can be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com, or by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office from noon until 6:00pm Monday through Friday at (402) 738-5100.
