Supak Shines, Missions Walk off on Grizzlies

SAN ANTONIO - Blake Allemand's walk-off single in the tenth inning was the cherry on top of Trey Supak's Wolff Stadium debut as the San Antonio Missions edged the Fresno Grizzlies 1-0 Friday night.

Allemand roped a base hit the opposite way to left field to give the Missions their eighth walk-off victory of the season.

Making his first home start for the Missions, Supak was superb. The right-hander mowed through the Fresno lineup as he spun his ninth scoreless start of the season and first at the Triple-A level. The Grizzlies managed just four softly hit singles off the Brewers prospect in 6 2/3 innings. Supak kept Fresno off balance all night long as he tallied eight punch outs on the night.

Fresno's Scott Copeland matched Supak pitch for pitch as the right-hander twirled six-innings of shutout baseball and matched a career-high with nine strikeouts. Copeland held the Missions hitless until Corey Ray led off the sixth inning with a single back up the middle.

The bullpens picked up where the starters left off. San Antonio's combination of Danny Coulombe, Jimmy Nelson, and Angel Perdomo completed the 12th shutout of the season for the Missions. Nelson, pitching for the second straight game, looked sharp as he struck out the side in the eighth inning and topped out at 95 miles per hour with his fastball. As a staff the Missions fanned a season-high 17 batters.

San Antonio's defense dazzled on the night as well. Troy Stokes Jr. made two incredible catches to take away extra-base hits from Fresno. The left fielder made a diving catch in the left center field and a leaping grab up against the wall. In the top of the 10th Hernán Pérez scooped up a Collin Cowgill bunt attempt and made a nifty flip home to the catcher Jacob Nottingham who tagged out Raudy Read at the plate to maintain the scoreless tie.

In the home half of the frame Jacob Nottingham began the inning as the designated runner at second base and advanced to third on a perfectly placed bunt by Jake Hager before Allemand drove him home with his base hit.

The Missions and Grizzlies continue their four-game series against Saturday night at Wolff Stadium. Right-hander Zack Brown (2-6, 5.85) is scheduled to start for the Missions against right-hander Logan Ondrusek (4-5, 8.83) for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

Post-Game Notes

* With the win, San Antonio improved to 69-42 on the season.

* With the win, the Missions avoided their first three-game home losing streak of the season

* San Antonio extended its season-long errorless streak to seven games

* The two team's combined for 28 strikeouts on the night.

* Friday's game was the second 1-0 win in 10 innings this season. The other came on May 7 against New Orleans

* The Missions are now 4-2 in extra-inning games this season.
