Iowa Cubs News Release
RENO, NV - Trent Giambrone hit an inside-the-park home run and Colin Rea spun a gem but it wasn't enough as the Iowa Cubs (58-52) were defeated 3-1 by the Reno Aces (50-60), Thursday at Greater Nevada Field.
The Aces spoiled a scoreless game with a two-out rally in the fourth. Ben DeLuzio singled, swiped second, and then scored on an Alberto Rosario base hit.
Joel Payamps had retired 14-straight I-Cubs until Trent Giambrone broke up the perfect game in the fifth. Giambrone skied a ball to center that was lost in the lights. The infielder sped around the bags for an inside-the-park homer that tied the game 1-1. It would be Iowa's only hit of the night.
The game remained deadlocked as Payamps held the I-Cubs to one hit, walked one and struck out one through 7.0 frames. On the opposite bump, Colin Rea allowed eight hits through 6.0, but allowed just one run to score. The righty walked one and struck out three as he lowered his ERA to 3.65.
A tumultuous eighth inning was the difference as an uncharacteristic two Iowa errors led to two unearned runs on a Rosario single. Duane Underwood Jr. (2-6) was the unlucky loser as he was tagged with both unearned runs through 2.0 frames.
POSTGAME NOTES:
- Taylor Davis was the last I-Cub to hit an inside-the-park home run, doing so on Aug. 20, 2017 at Nashville.

- The last time Iowa was one-hit was Aug. 9, 2016 vs. Oklahoma City.
Iowa begins a series in Tacoma with a 9:00 p.m. first pitch Friday. Follow the action on AM 940, TuneIn Radio or www.iowacubs.com.
