T-Birds Fall to Winterhawks

KENT - The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-4 Sunday evening at accesso ShoWare Center.

The T-Birds are 3-2-0-0 in the U.S. Division and their next game is Wednesday against the Everett Silvertips at 6:05pm at accesso ShoWare Center.

This game was the fourth game in March broadcast on JOEtv. The T-Birds will be announcing the games in April that will be on JOEtv later this week.

Conner Roulette was hooked down on a breakaway at 1:30 of the first period and awarded a penalty shot. Roulette came down on Portland goalie Brock Gould skating left to right. At the top of the crease Roulette stopped, brought the puck back left, and slid it past a sprawling Gould. It was his third goal of the season.

Portland tied the game 1-1 at 8:56 of the first on a goal by Gabe Klassen.

Henrik Rybinski and Gabe Ludwig scored 28 seconds apart in the second period to put the T-Birds up 3-1.

Sam Popowich sent the puck out of the left corner to Luke Bateman at the left point. Bateman put a slap shot on goal that Gould. Rybinski skated through the low slot and picked up the rebound and slid it past Gould at 8:36 as he was down to make the save on Bateman's shot.

Off the ensuing faceoff the T-Birds got the puck deep into the Portland zone. Matthew Rempe sent the puck to the right point and Bateman backhanded the puck towards the Portland net. Ludwig popped the loose puck past Gould at the left post at 9:04 for his first career WHL goal.

The Winterhawks tied the game 3-3 power-play goals from Robbie Fromm-Delorme at 11:28 and Ryan McCleary at 12:29 of the second.

Jordan Gustafson got the T-Birds the lead 4-3 13 seconds after Portland tied the game. Rempe passed the puck to Keltie Jeri-Leon who gained the offensive zone. Jeri-Leon took a shot from the top of the right circle that rebounded off Gould into the slot. Gustafson, while getting checked from behind, pushed the puck past Gould for his second goal of the season.

Portland tied the game 4-4 at 13:50 of the second on a goal from Simon Knak.

Seth Jarvis scored a shorthanded goal at 4:49 of the third period to put the Winterhawks in front 5-4.

Kyle Chyzowski scored at 10:01 of the third to make it 6-4 Portland.

Seattle pulled goalie Thomas Milic for an extra attacker with 3:05 left in the game. Knak hit the empty net at 17:41 of the third to make it 7-4 Portland.
