Kamloops, BC- The Prince George Cougars opened their 2021 RE/MAX HUB season with a 5-4 loss to the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday night at the Sandman Centre.

It was a highly entertaining, back-and-forth game. Prince George led 3-1 after the first period and 4-3 going into the third, but the Blazers came back twice, including putting together a two-goal third period, to seal the win.

The Cougars (0-1-0-0) rookies impressed, with Kyren Gronick, Carter MacAdams, and Koehn Ziemmer all scoring their first WHL goals. All three are 16-year-olds. Ethan Browne scored the Cougars other goal. Jack Sander chipped in with two assists.

The Cougars' power-play looked good early, scoring twice on their first two opportunities. Browne and Gronick scored first period power-play goals. The man-advantage finished 2-4. The one blemish for the power-play was a short-handed marker surrendered to Connor Zary in the third period.

The Blazers (2-0-0) were led by Kamloops product Logan Stankoven. The 17-year-old had two goals, including the game-winner with just under 10-minutes left in the third period.
