Tigers Sweep Weekend

March 28, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - The Hurricanes returned to Co-op Place for the 3rd game in this three game series. Can they take one from the Tigers or will the home team stay strong?

The 1st period started off with a few long sequences of play but as the minutes ticked by, the pace picked up. Lethbridge took the 1st penalty with Alex Cotton charged with high sticking. Brett Kemp took full advantage as Tetachuk couldn't maintain possession of the puck and it was flipped into the back of the net. Because the Tigers dominate the league in the power play, Lethbridge needed to step up their game. The Tigers were dealt a huge blow when Cole Clayton was given a interference penalty and a misconduct. There will be a lot of opportunity for the young guys to step up. The power play will be dominate for the remainder of this contest.

It was a 1-1 score to start the second but that changed quickly. Alex Boyko got his second of the season when he turned and fired on Bjorklund. The Tigers seemed to briefly have a bit of trouble with the large forechecking Canes players and needed to take the control back. They seemed to do just that when Hopwo scored his 7th of the season with a seeing eye shot from the slot. The intensity level was climbing and Tetachuk made a spectacular save on a point blank shot from MacKenzie. There was a little 4 on 4 when both teams took penalties and it was Ryan Chyzowski who turned on the wheels and delivered a snap shot to put the Tigers up by one. Lethbridge scored about a minute and a half later, when Joe Arnsten got his first of the season and would make it a 3 -3 game. The big news of the period though, was that Cole Clayton was back on the ice. The game misconduct was removed.

Eight seconds in to the third period Tigers Captain Ryan Chyzowski snipes his second of the night. The power play definitely played a big roll in this game. Two minutes later the 'Canes bench was celebrating as Justin Hall tied up the game once again. Fatigue started to set in for both teams and mistakes were made and tempers started to rise. A rash of penalties ensued. Nothing was decided and the period ended in a 3 - 3 tie.

Overtime

With 5 minutes to solve the battle, it will be all about puck possession in this highly entertaining game. The Hurricanes played desperate hockey trying to garner the 2 points, but it would be Oren Shtrom who would be the hero. This was his first WHL career goal.

The Tigers improve to 7-3-0-0 and will face Calgary next weekend for 3 games in 4 nights.
