How can the Winterhawks claim a "W" to end to the weekend?
Bring the legs.
It's the third game in three days for both clubs and it's no secret that endurance is going to play a factor. While talent and skill can still play a factor, it depends on how much there is to offer from those players in an effort like today. It may just come down to who has more to offer in the tank.
What didn't go right last night?
A short sequence.
The Winterhawks had just taken control in the second period and within 49 seconds it all fall apart. On Seattle's second goal Simon Knak got in some trouble in the neutral zone and after the T-Birds took over possession all it took was one pass and a well-placed shot for the home side to tie the game. The Thunderbirds eventual game-winner came after a routine chip in was unable to be cleared by Portland. To their credit, it was a nice forecheck by Jordan Gustafson, who was rewarded by tipping in the goal just moments later.
Just HOW good has Dante Giannuzzi been so far this season?
Very.
No U.S. Division goalie has stopped more pucks this season than the Winterhawks #1 netminder this season. It's a shame that Dante's record right now reflects 1-1-2-0 because his .936 SV% (save percentage) is third-best in all of the WHL among all goalies that have played in four games. He's been great and if he keeps playing this way and the team in front of him is able to put it all together, it could be a very scary situation for the rest of the division the rest of the way.
Fans can catch the action online tonight on the new WHL Live on CHL TV platform all in HD, and listen live on the Winterhawks Radio Network presented by Toyota.
