Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch extended its point streak to six games Friday night with a 5-1 win against the Hershey Bears at the War Memorial Arena.

The Crunch five-goal output is the third time in the six-game point streak, which started Nov. 1 with a 6-3 win over Binghamton, that Syracuse scored five or more goals.

Kevin Lynch netted the eventual game-winner and his first goal in a Crunch sweater at the 14:11 mark of the first period. He posted up in front of the net and took a clean pass from Jerome Samson for the one-timer. Dalton Smith also assisted on the goal. Lynch, who was signed to a professional tryout by Syracuse Wednesday, scored his first career AHL goal to give Syracuse a 2-1 lead.

Nikita Nesterov scored the fourth marker for the Crunch on the power-play at the 9:18 mark of the final frame. Jerome Samson and Jonathan Marchessault facilitated on Nesterov's second goal of the season.

Henri Ikonen potted his first goal of the season to give the Crunch its first insurance marker, 3-1, early in the second period. Dalton Smith set up Ikonen for a one-timer with a pass from behind the net for his sixth point in four games.

After the Finn's tally, Hershey had three power-play opportunities in the second frame but Syracuse denied the Bears from scoring, and killed its eighth straight penalty, dating back to the end of the Wilkes-Barre contest on Sunday. The Crunch killed all four Hershey man advantages and have prevented a goal in 10 consecutive penalty kills.

Mike Angelidis scored the equalizer at the 7:59 mark of the first period, his third goal of the season. Yanni Gourde fed the puck to the captain to extend his point streak to five games with the assist.

Hershey scored the first goal of the game for the 11th time in 14 games when Kris Newbury scored his ninth of the season, and increased his league-leading points total to 19. The difference for the Bears this time was that they didn't win as they had in six of the first ten when scoring first.

Marchessault scored his sixth goal of the season, an empty-netter in the final minutes of the third. He improved his team lead in points to 13.

Andrei Vasilevskiy recorded his second career AHL win and stopped 21 of 22 shots and Philipp Grubauer fell to 4-4-1 on the season, giving up four goals on 25 Crunch shots.

The Crunch travel to Wilkes-Barre tomorrow for the second, and final time this season, after a 5-4 overtime loss to the Penguins Sunday. The next home game for Syracuse will be the Toyota Frozen Dome Classic Nov. 22 at the Carrier Dome against the Utica Comets.
