Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - Senators forward Max McCormick notched three points in Norfolk's first game back at home to drop the Admirals 5-2 Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.

East Division foes Norfolk and Binghamton met for the first time this season Friday night. After dropping two of their last three games, the Admirals looked for a spark as Anaheim Ducks forward Kyle Palmieri suited up for the team on a conditioning stint.

The NHL veteran, who played with the Admirals back in 2012-13, made his presence known early in the game. He nearly lit the lamp less than two minutes into his debut, barely missing the top corner above Sens goalie Scott Greenham's glove. It was one of a game-leading eight shots on net.

Fellow Admiral David Pacan was able to capitalize on a Binghamton neutral zone giveaway as he registered the first goal of his AHL career. The center took a turnover and snuck the puck between Greenham's arm and the post. The unassisted goal gave the Admirals a 1-0 lead just 6:11 into the first period.

Binghamton answered Pacan's marker later in the first. Darren Kramer crossed the Norfolk blue line on a 2-on-1 with McCormick. Kramer's shot was stopped by Igor Bobkov, but the puck came right to McCormick who buried the rebound. The goal was recorded 14:50 into the first period with an additional assist credited to Binghamton's Danny Hobbs.

A late period penalty to Shane Prince allotted the Admirals their second man advantage opportunity of the first period. Louis Leblanc made it count as he rifled home a shot from the slot to give Norfolk their second lead of the night, 18:57 into the first period. The opening 20 minutes concluded with a 2-1 score in favor of the hosts.

Norfolk controlled the pace for the first half of the second period. Good puck movement in the Binghamton zone provided close calls for Antoine Laganiere and the aforementioned Palmieri, but neither player could find the back of the net. Despite a large shot advantage and control of play, the Admirals let up the equalizer 13:52 into the second frame. The Sens' Daniel New stuffed home a shot to make it a tie game, and the second period finished with a 2-2 deadlock on the scoreboard.

Binghamton took their first lead of the night just 2:08 into the third period. Alex Guptill's shot from above the circle flew past Bobkov to give the Senators an early 3-2 advantage. Carter Camper and Prince got credit for the assists on the go-ahead goal. Minutes later, Binghamton added to their lead as McCormick streaked in alone and beat Bobkov top shelf. The goal came at the 10:05 mark of the final period.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau slid home an empty-net goal at 18:24. Binghamton claimed the first of back-to-back games with Norfolk by a final score of 5-2.

Bobkov saved 26-of-30 shots, while Greenham stopped 35-of-37. Binghamton now moves past Norfolk in the divisional standing with the victory.

The Admirals host the Senators once again tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are still available at the Scope Box Office.

Three Stars:

1) BNG #17 Max McCormick (1 G, 2 A)

2) BNG #8 Daniel New (1 G)

3) BNG #35 Scott Greenham (35 saves)

NOTES ... David Pacan's goal was the first of his AHL career ... Scratches for the Admirals included Max Friberg, Stefan Noesen, Chris Wagner and Brad Winchester ... Norfolk owned the shot advantage over Binghamton, 37-31 ... The Admirals went 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Senators were 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
