Albany Devils News Release
PORTLAND, ME - The Albany Devils blanked the Portland Pirates, 4-0, to take game one of the weekend series Friday at Cross Insurance Arena. Albany picked up two points after a six game setback and improve to 7-3-1-3, while Portland moves to 7-7-0-0.
Scott Clemmensen stopped all 31 shots faced for his first win of the season - a shutout victory.
The Devils took the early lead 4:10 into the first. Joe Whitney found the rebound off a Scott Timmins shot and jammed it home off the far post past the stick side of Portland netminder Mike McKenna for his fourth of the season. Paul Thompson was credited with the second assist.
Reid Boucher found the back of the net to make it 2-0 just 35 seconds into the third period. Mike Sislo found a drop pass from Tim Sestito and was denied by McKenna when Boucher hammered home the rebound opportunity for his second of the season. Sestito made it 3-0 on his second try at 11:18 of the third. Mark Fraser capped the scoring with 1:01 remaining in the game after his shot from the point beat traffic and trickled in to make it 4-0.
Sislo fed Sestito the puck for his second helper of the game and Sestito picked up his third point of the evening with an assist on Fraser's first of the season.
Albany owned a 36-31 shot advantage over Portland, and finished the game 0-7 on the man-advantage and 7-7 on the penalty kill.
