LAST TIME OUT

ROCHESTER, NY (July 26, 2022) - T The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (46-48) defeated the Rochester Red Wings 12-5 on Tuesday night. SWB came within one hit of tying a season-high with 18 total hits in the game.

The RailRiders jumped out in front in the second inning. Ronald Guzmán and Armando Alvarez traded doubles to take a 1-0 lead. That lead would grow by three in the top of the third. Oswald Peraza hit a high home run that banged off the left field foul flag. It put him in sole possession for the team lead with 13 home runs. Ben Rortvedt followed suit with a two-run shot of his own. Rortvedt had been 2-for-22 in his rehab stint with Hudson Valley and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre prior to that homer, making it 4-0 SWB.

The Red Wings responded with a two-run Joey Meneses homer in the bottom of the third. The RailRiders bounced back with a six-run, six-hit, eleven batter top of the fourth. It matched a season-high for runs scored in an inning, something they've done twice against the Syracuse Mets. Rochester responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and a lone run in the fifth.

The RailRiders rode José Mujica for three and a third innings, the longest outing for any pitcher in the game. Mujica settled the game down, being charged with one run. SWB put up 12 runs on 18 hits in the series opener against the Red Wings. Every RailRider had a hit with seven of the nine starters tallying a run batted in.

NEWS & NOTES

FIRST THINGS FIRST - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders make their last trip to Frontier Field this season with a six-game set in Rochester. The last time the RailRiders were here they dropped five of six in the early part of May. The Red Wings will not return to PNC Field this season.

CLOSE ENOUGH - The RailRiders came one hit shy of tying a season record in Tuesday's opener against the Red Wings. SWB tallied 18 hits, nearing the 19 hit mark they set on April 28 at home against Lehigh Valley.

BASICALLY THE SAME - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre tallied 12 runs on 18 hits on Tuesday. In the three-game series against Lehigh Valley this past weekend they had 13 runs on 26 hits.

CLOSING IN.... AGAIN - With a win tonight, the RailRiders would be one-game under .500 for the second time in the last five games (45-46 on July 22).

RON'S GONE RIGHT - Since July 8, Ronald Guzmán has been on a 12-for-30 push (.400) with five doubles and a home run. This stretch has lasted seven games. The seven games prior to this, Guzmán had gone 3-for-19 (.158) while striking out seven times.

BENNY THE RORT-VEDTS - Ben Rortvedt is currently on a rehab assignment with the RailRiders. In Tuesday's game in Rochester, Rortvedt went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs. Prior to that game including his four games with the Hudson Valley Renegades, Rortvedt had gone 2-for-21, both hits singles, with 12 strikeouts. The 24-year-old is still awaiting his Yankees' debut in his first season in the organization.

STREAKY - Greg Weissert has not been charged with a run in fifteen straight appearances, the longest stretch for any RailRiders pitcher this season. This scoreless streak has lasted 14.2 innings... Oswald Peraza has a six-game hit streak... Josh Breaux has a nine-game on-base streak, every Triple-A game he has had a plate appearance in... Jake Bauers has a six-game on-base streak... Rob Brantly is on a four-game hit streak... Josh Breaux, Miguel Andújar and Oswaldo Cabrera have four-game hit streaks...

FIRST TIME, LONG TIME - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lost back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday for the first time in the month of July and the first time since June 21 and 22 in Toledo. That was also coincidently the last time the RailRiders lost back-to-back one-run games. Saturday and Sunday's losses were the fourth time SWB has lost back-to-back one-run games. They have not lost three straight one-run games this season.

WELL, THAT HAPPENED - With Sunday's loss in Lehigh Valley, the RailRiders dropped the three-game set to the IronPigs. It ended a stretch of six straight series with either a series win or series split. The last series loss coincidentally also came against Lehigh Valley.

TOUGH NEWS - Tuesday, the Yankees moved Reggie McClain to the 60-Day Injured List from the 7-Day Injured List. McClain had been on the IL since June 13 and has not appeared in a game since June 10. Just over one year ago on June 21, 2021 at PNC Field, McClain combined with Luis Gil and Stephen Ridings for the fifth no-hitter in franchise history against these Rochester Red Wings. It was the first no-no in the Yankees-affiliated era (since 2007).

MOVE IT, MOVE IT - Tim Locastro was recalled by the Yankees Tuesday with the news that Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 24) with left achilles tendonitis. Locastro had just been optioned late Friday, appearing for SWB on Sunday without coming to the plate. The Yankees have already made twelve roster moves involving SWB since the All-Star break ended (Thursday, July 21).

ON DECK - The RailRiders are on the road for a nine-game road trip, their longest of the season thus far. The RailRiders return home on Tuesday, August 2 to host the Buffalo Bisons. Get 2-for-1 lawn or bleacher seats online only and enjoy $2 Landshark Lager tallboys for two hours after gates open, presented by PrimoHoagies and The River.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION - The New York Yankees (66-32) dropped the opening game of the series to the New York Mets 6-3 last night. Anthony Rizzo and Aaron Judge hit back-to-back homers in the loss. It was the 14th time this season New York has hit back-to-back shots, which ties the 2009 club for a franchise record. Domingo Germán faces Max Scherzer tonight at 7:10 PM... The Somerset Patriots (57-34) took down the Richmond Flying Squirrels today 3-0. Luis Medina surrendered one hit in five shutout innings. Richmond mustered just two hits total. They play a doubleheader tomorrow at 4:35 PM... The Hudson Valley Renegades (49-41) defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones 10-2 yesterday. Jasson Domínguez went 2-for-5 with a two-run triple and a single in his home debut. Blas Castaño starts tonight at 7:05 PM... The Tampa Tarpons (42-46) won 7-2 over the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels last night. Antonio Gomez had a three-hit, four-RBI contest. The Tarpons and Mussels have a doubleheader today at 4:30 PM...
