Charlotte Knights News Release
(NASHVILLE, TN) - The Charlotte Knights dropped game two of the six-game series against the Nashville Sounds by a score of 12-5 on Wednesday night from First Horizon Park in Nashville, TN. The loss was Charlotte's second in as many days to the Sounds.
Charlotte RHP J.B. Olson (0-2, 5.59) was saddled with the loss after he allowed five runs on five hits in the first inning to the Sounds. It was Olson's only inning pitched on Wednesday and the Sounds got off to a quick 5-0 lead after just one inning.
The Knights used the long ball to battle back on Wednesday. Shortstop Yolbert Sánchez put the Knights on the scoreboard for the first time with a solo home run in the top of the second inning. The home run was his third of the season and second over his last three games.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Sounds continued to pull away from the Knights. The team scored three runs against reliever Steven Moyers in the second to make it an 8-1 lead for the Sounds after just two innings. Moyers allowed five runs total over his two innings of work on Wednesday.
In the top of the third inning, the Knights put together a solid offensive performance. Charlotte scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of catcher Carlos Pérez, who continued his solid season at the plate. Pérez hit his team-high 15th home run of the season in Charlotte's four-run third inning. Thanks to the four-run inning, the Knights pulled to within three runs, down 8-5. That was as close as the team would get, however, on Wednesday.
The Sounds added two runs in the fourth inning and later added two more runs in the fifth inning to make it a 12-5 game. Nashville first baseman Jon Singleton led the way with a home run and five RBIs. Catcher Jakson Reetz also chipped in with a homer and two RBIs for the first-place Sounds.
The Knights used a total of seven pitchers on the evening. RHP Caleb Boushley (10-2, 3.71) earned the win for the Sounds after he started and went five innings.
The Knights will continue the six-game road series against the Nashville Sounds from Nashville, TN on Thursday night. First pitch from First Horizon Park on Thursday is set for 8:05 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
