Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Rochester Red Wings fell short in a 7-4 defeat to the Scranton Railriders Wednesday night at Frontier Field. The loss drops Rochester to below .500 for the first time since opening day.

RHP Cade Cavalli toed the rubber for Rochester in his first outing since July 12. The Nationals' No. 1 prospect held the Railriders scoreless on three hits in five innings of work.

Rochester scored the first run of the game in the sixth on an RBI triple from 1B Joey Meneses that brought home LF Josh Palacios. A sixth-inning two-run homer from CF David Dahl put the Wings up 3-0 before things took a turn.

Scranton logged five runs in the seventh on a Chris Owings RBI groundout, a three-run homer from Miguel Andujar, and an RBI single from Josh Breaux.

RHP Will Harris made a Major League rehab appearance in the seventh, giving up three hits and three runs in a third of an inning. Scranton took a 5-3 lead when LHP Luis Avilan relieved Harris and allowed two hits and two runs in the last two thirds of the inning.

Meneses tallied his second RBI of the night with a single that scored DH Andrew Stevenson and brought the Wings within one, but Jake Bauers hit an eighth-inning two-run homer to put Scranton up 7-4.

The Wings have lost seven consecutive games and are one defeat away from matching their season-long losing streak of eight games.

Rochester will send recent Nationals addition RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon to the mound on Thursday for an 11:05 a.m. contest against Scranton.
