
Five-Run First Aids Jacksonville 6-3 Win over Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Lorenzo Quintana homered as part of a five-run first inning and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp came away with a 6-3 win over the Gwinnett Stripers Wednesday night at Coolray Field.
The Jumbo Shrimp (52-43) jumped out to an early lead in the first inning against Gwinnett (46-49) starter Nolan Kingham (L, 3-3). With one out, Peyton Burdick singled and went to third on a base hit from Charles Leblanc. Jerar Encarnacion followed with another single, scoring Burdick to put Jacksonville ahead 1-0. With two runners on, Quintana (14) blasted a two-run home run, increasing the lead to 4-0. Luis Aviles Jr. followed with the fifth consecutive hit of the inning, then stole second and went to third on a throwing error. Erik González worked a walk and Santiago Chavez hit into a fielder's choice, allowing Aviles Jr. to score from third to give Jacksonville a 5-0 lead.
Gwinnett plated their first two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Greyson Jenista singled and Delino DeShields Jr. walked. Three batters later, Chadwick Tromp walked to load the bases. Parker Bugg (W, 1-0) entered in relief of Jesús Luzardo but surrendered a two-run single to Preston Tucker, cutting the deficit to 5-2.
The Stripers added one more run in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Tromp singled off Jacksonville reliever Will Stewart. Tucker followed with a double and Ryan Casteel hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Tromp from third to make it a two-run game.
The Jumbo Shrimp were held in check since the first inning but added one more run in the ninth. Burdick was hit by a pitch and went to third on a single from Leblanc. With runners at the corners, Encarnacion hit a sac fly, scoring Burdick to give Jacksonville an insurance run, 6-3.
Luzardo had another good start for Jacksonville, pitching 4.2 innings while allowing two runs on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Bugg spun 1.1 scoreless frames with two hits allowed, one walk and two strikeouts. Will Stewart allowed one run on two hits in two innings of work. George Soriano (S, 4) pitched a flawless ninth inning, striking out two en route to his fourth save of the season.
Jacksonville continues their series with the Gwinnett Stripers Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The Jumbo Shrimp will hand the ball to RHP Edward Cabrera (1-2, 4.56) who will be making a rehab start while LHP Jared Shuster (0-0, 0.00) will be making his Triple-A debut for Gwinnett.
