Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

SMASHING SUCCESS: Crooked numbers littered the scoreboard as the RailRiders crushed the Syracuse Chiefs on Thursday night, 10-2. Syracuse fell for the 18th time in 19 games overall.

EIGHT IS GREAT: The eight-run margin matched SWB's 10-2 win at Durham for its most lopsided win of the season. That May 14 triumph at Durham Bulls Athletic Park sparked the RailRiders' active eight-game road winning streak. Oddly enough, the RailRiders' most lopsided loss of the year was also an eight-run decision, another 10-2 finish at Syracuse on April 16.

ROAD WARRIORS: The RailRiders have won eight straight games away from PNC Field going back to their four-game sweep of Durham from May 14-17. The team enjoys its longest road winning streak since it swept Charlotte and Gwinnett in back-to-back four-game sets on a single road trip from April 29-May 5, 2013. SWB last won nine straight on the road when it claimed its first 10 away from PNC Field in 2009. The 10th triumph in that spurt was a 17-14 game that took 13 innings and 4:43 at Rochester on April 25.

SIMPSON SIR, SECTOR 7G: Nick Noonan thundered his first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth. He last went yard on Aug. 26, 2014 while with Triple-A Fresno at Memphis. Kyle Roller smashed a two-run dinger an inning later. Roller is now tied for second in the IL with eight homers. Only Charlotte's Matt Davidson, who has hit seven of his nine home runs at the hitter-friendly BB&T Ballpark, has more big flies in the IL this season.

MULTIPLICITY: SWB got multi-hit efforts from Rob Refsnyder and Cole Figueroa. Ben Gamel reached base thrice (2BB, 1-1B) and scored twice.

THE AIR UP THERE: The RailRiders stand three games above .500 for the third time this season. They have not owned a record four games above sea level since the 2013 squad was 20-16 after a 3-2 loss at Gwinnett on May 13.

THE LONG & THE SHORT OF IT: Starter Jaron Long (4-4) won for the fourth time in six starts. In the wins, he has allowed just two earned runs over 24.2 innings (0.73 ERA). He struck out a season-best six last night and walked none. He allowed a home run to Matt den Dekker in his final frame. All four home runs he has allowed this season have come against southpaw swingers. He has been better in his five road starts (3-1, 3.08) than he has in his six home nods (1-3, 5.51).

GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT: The RailRiders stand five games below .500 at PNC Field (14-19) and eight games over on the road (15-7). The team has hit .281 on the road compared to a .246 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 115 runs in 22 games (5.2/game). At home, the squad has plated 111 runs in 33 games (3.4/game). The pitching has performed better at home (3.39 ERA) than outside of Moosic (3.74). No IL team has a better road winning percentage than the RailRiders (.682) and no IL squad has more home losses than SWB (19).

GETTING THE CALL: Former SWB hurler Pat Venditte has been called up to the bigs by the Oakland Athletics. The switch pitcher dominated with Triple-A Nashville (17G/1GS, 1-0, 1.36, 33IP, 33K, 19H, .167 BAA, 12IR/4S). He looks to become MLB's first regular switch-pitcher since 1894. Montreal's Greg Harris was the last to throw with both arms in the majors. He did so in 1995 but he was a right-hander who only attempted life as a southpaw late in his career.

OFF THE RAILS: The RailRiders have allowed a homer in a season-worst four straight games...SWB's five-run fourth tied as the team's most explosive frame of the season...Relievers Nick Rumbelow, Chris Martin and Branden Pinder each fired a scoreless inning to end the game.
