Syracuse Mets News Release
The Syracuse Chiefs are pleased to announce that Washington Nationals starting pitcher Doug Fister will join the team on an upcoming rehab assignment. Fister is expected to start on Sunday afternoon when the Chiefs play the Pawtucket Red Sox at 1:05 p.m. Fister is currently working his way back from the Nationals' Disabled List after suffering right forearm tightness.
Fister, 31, is currently 2-2 with a 4.31 ERA in seven starts with Washington this year. Last season, his first with the Nationals, Fister posted a 16-6 record and 2.41 ERA in 25 starts, allowing just 153 hits and 24 walks in 164.0 innings. He ranked fourth in the National League in ERA and second in walks per nine innings. Fister finished eighth in voting for the National League Cy Young Award.
A seven-year Major-League veteran, Fister owns a career ERA of 3.38 in 162 games (159 starts). He currently leads all active major leaguers in walks per nine innings, having surrendered just 1.75 per nine. Fister, who pitched from the Mariners from 2009-11 and Tigers from 2011-13, has been even better in the postseason, with a 2.60 ERA in nine games (eight starts), including a six-inning, one-run performance with Detroit in the 2012 World Series.
