Buffalo Bisons News Release

It took six games, but Felix Doubront finally met his match.

Entering his sixth start of the season without a decision and a 0.82 ERA, the lefty turned in an another admirable performance on Friday night, but was bested by a platoon of four Louisville pitchers in a 2-1 Bats win over the Bisons at Louisville Slugger Field.

Doubront was outdueled by a combination of Bats' hurlers, led by starting pitcher Layne Somsen. The righty was promoted from Double-A just hours before the game as scheduled Louisville starter Jon Moscot was recalled by the Reds. Making his Triple-A debut on his 26th birthday, Somsen threw four shutout innings and collected six strikeouts for the Bats

Louisville's bullpen then combined for six hits and one earned run over five innings with former Bison Jose De La Torre getting his second win of the season for the Bats.

Doubront fanned eight over five innings of work, yielding two runs (one earned) in the first inning. The first run of the frame was Doubront's first surrendered home run of the season - a line drive home run to left center field by Bats' designated hitter Jermaine Curtis. The southpaw then gave up his second run after a throwing error by infielder Matt Hague. The error set up an RBI-ground out by Eugenio Suarez, bringing home Steve Selsky.

Doubront settled down after the shaky first inning, giving up two hits and striking out seven over the next four innings. In the third inning, he walked three of the first four Bats to load the bases with one out. Doubront was able to get out of the inning after striking out Louisville shortstop Eugenio Suarez for the second out and receiving an unlikely assist for the third out.

Louisville third baseman Chris Dominguez hit a pop-up towards the first base bleachers, but a fan reached over the rail and interfered with first baseman Daric Barton. The batter was automatically declared out, stranding the bases loaded.

It wasn't the last time a fan would interfere with Friday's game.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Selsky hit a deep fly ball to centerfield, but for the second time in the game, a fan interfered with a live ball. The fan reached his glove towards the ball and made contact with it while the ball was still in play. The play automatically resulted in a ground rule double. Selsky was on his way to third base by the time the call was made, and the hit could have resulted in a triple or potentially a home run.

The fan mistake proved to be costly for the Bats as Doubront was able to force two fly outs to end the inning, with Selsky stranded on third base in his final inning of the night.

Buffalo's sole run was an RBI-single by outfielder Dalton Pompey in the top of the fifth inning. Pompey and outfielder Chris Dickerson each had two hits and accounted for half of Buffalo's hit total.

The Bisons have two games remaining in the series before returning to Buffalo for a seven-game homestand, beginning on Monday against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Rail Riders. Saturday's game against Louisville will begin at 6:05 p.m.
