Tri-City Storm News Release
Kearney, Ne. - Jake Wahlin tied the game at one with six minutes left in the third, but Ethen Frank scored the shootout-winning goal in the top of the seventh round to beat the Storm, 2-1, Wednesday from the Viaero Center.
The Storm's offense put consistent pressure on Lincoln netminder Peyton Jones, who made 47 saves. Tri-City outshot the Stars, 48-22, and picked up the point by forcing an extra session. Matt Greenfield took the shootout loss and made 21 saves, plus five extra stops in the skills competition.
In the shootout, Storm forward Dan Labosky answered Will D'Orsi in the fourth round to keep the shootout alive. Frank scored three rounds later for the winner.
Wahlin's tying goal, his sixth of the season, tied the forward with defenseman Mattias Goransson for second best on the club.
Lincoln struck first at the 3:08 mark of the first. Will D'Orsi trickled the puck past Storm goalie Matt Greenfield, flicking it from the right goal line on a 2-on-2 rush. Adam Brady touched the puck to D'Orsi to earn the primary assist, while Grant Jozefek got the secondary assist.
The Storm blasted 17 shots on the goal in the first and limited the Stars to five.
In the second, Tri-City continued ripping, outshooting the Stars, 13-7, Jones stopped all 30 shots through the first two, while Matt Greenfield was 11 for 12. At the end of the second, Tri-City Head Coach Bill Muckalt was assessed a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and game misconduct.
Wahlin tied the game in the third, wristing it from the left dot under Jones after getting a pass from Carson Meyer. Nico Sturm earned the secondary helper.
The Storm's power play finished 0-for-6. Tri-City was 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
