Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

The Des Moines Buccaneers fell behind early to the Sioux City Musketeers and were unable to dig themselves out of the hole and fell by a score of 4-1.

Both goaltenders played strong first periods matching each other save for save but Sioux City got a 1-0 lead late in the period when David Trinkberger took a shot from the point that Jan Ruzicka made the save on but the puck inadvertently bounced off a Des Moines player and into the back of the net. Ruzicka made 12 saves in the first, Sioux City's Cam Gornet stopped all 11 shots he saw.

In the second period a turnover inside the Bucs' zone led to a fast break for Sioux City and while Matt Steeves had the puck flutter on his first attempt to shoot it settled for him on his second effort and beat Ruzicka cleanly blocker side. The Des Moines side was going to be whistled for their first penalty of the game but Eeli Tolvanen was dragged down and he and a Buccaneer player crashed into Ruzicka with the puck trickling over the line at 14:03 of the second period, giving Sioux City a 3-0 lead. The Bucs' Kenny Hausinger scored the lone goal of the game for Des Moines on the MidAmerican Energy Power Play as Gornet spit out a rebound off of Chris Allemon's shot and Hausinger slammed it home to cut the lead to 3-1 going into the third.

Sioux City started the final period with a 5-minute major and were able to get a Ian Scheid power play goal at the 2:22 mark to make it a 4-1 final. In the game Sioux City's Gornet finished with 32 saves, while Des Moines' Ruzicka came up with 29 saves in the loss.

The Buccaneers are next in action against the Green Bay Gamblers at home on Friday, November 27th. Tickets are still available, call 278-2827 or you can listen to the game on 1700 KBGG.
