Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Ralston, NE - In a goaltender duel that saw highlight reel saves on both ends, the Sioux Falls Stampede came up on the wrong end of a 1-0 final Wednesday night to the Omaha Lancers at Ralston Arena. Stefanos Lekkas stopped 27 of 28 shots, but Zackarias Skog stopped all 25 shots he faced to lead the Lancers to victory. The loss dropped the Herd to 10-9-0 on the season and to 2-7-0 all-time at Ralston Arena. With the win, Omaha (12-6-1) moved six points ahead of the Stampede for second place in the West.
There wasn't a lot of offensive chances in the first period with only eight combined shots between the two teams. That trend continued in much of the second, but the Lancers were able to finally break through at 16:41 of the period to take a 1-0 lead when the Stampede couldn't clear the zone. Austin Lemieux found Brian Williams inside right circle who held the puck before sending it over to Nathan Krusko who wristed the puck past a diving Stampede goaltender Stefanos Lekkas to grab the first goal of the game. That lead would hold into the intermission, outshooting the Herd 14-9 in the period.
Sioux Falls would outshoot the Lancers 13-9 in the third period, but couldn't get the bounce they needed to get the puck past Lancers goaltender Zackarias Skog who stopped every shot thrown at him. Stefanos Lekkas was equally as good and kept the Stampede in the game with several big saves throughout the game. With 1:49 left the Herd pulled Lekkas for an extra attacker and put on their best offensive pressure of the game, creating chance after chance. The Herd hit the crossbar and the goal post each once and the Lancers defense blocked several shots late in the game as well to hold on for the victory.
Omaha outshot the Herd 28-25 on the night and went 0-for-1 on the power play while the Stampede also went 0-for-1 with the advantage.
The Herd return to action Friday night when they host the Fargo Force at 7:05 PM. Fans can take advantage of some Black Friday specials as select merchandise will be 50% off and new Stampede merchandise will be available just in time for the holidays. Tickets are available through the PREMIER Center or any Ticketmaster outlet.
