Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay Gamblers rode the wave of an early power play goal by Sam Saliba in a 3-0 triumph over the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Wednesday night at the Resch Center.
The winner of the game would take the top spot in the Eastern Conference. An early slashing penalty led to Saliba being set up in the slot for a one-time ripper that found the net behind Hunter Miska, elevating the Gamblers, who had won nine of the prior 11 games, to the lead.
The game was not without its chances for Dubuque. They came up empty on five power play opportunities in a chippy affair that saw both teams rack up 56 penalty minutes.
Grant Frederic's shot from the right point halfway through the second period found a way through a maze of traffic, deflecting off of the stick of Chris Grando and into the net, and putting Green Bay up 2-0.
Nick Poehling's late third-period goal, unassisted, put the game away. One last gasp on the power play went by the wayside, ending any hope of a comeback.
Miska stopped 34 of 37 shots fired his way on Wednesday night.
Gamblers netminder Adam Huska, who entered tonight's game as the league-leader in goals-against average and save percentage, upped his margin on those statistics with his second career shutout, and his second whitewashing in the past four games.
The Fighting Saints continue the road swing with a tussle in Chicago at 7:05 p.m. on Friday night. Join all of the live action on the exclusive radio home, Super Hits 106.1 FM.
They will return home to face off with the Steel on Saturday, November 28 for the Celebration of No-Shave November Night, sponsored by UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital. A special postgame auction with one-of-a-kind jerseys will benefit the Finley Health Foundation and the Wendt Regional Cancer Center.
