Defense Delivers Road Win
November 25, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Drew Hotte and the Waterloo Black Hawks' penalty-killers provided a staunch performance during a 3-1 victory at Alliant Energy Center against the Madison Capitols Wednesday.
Hotte made 30 saves for his second win in three Waterloo starts. He turned away 14 shots in the second period, denying the Capitols on three power plays. For the night, the Hawks held Madison at bay during six special teams advantages.
After a scoreless first period, the Hawks and Capitols each found the net during the second. Seconds after a Waterloo power play ended, Shane Bowers redirected a right point shot by Ben Newhouse, nudging the Hawks in front at 1:58. The Capitols tied the contest at 5:37 on a wraparound by Alexandre Payusov.
Yuri Terao put the Hawks in front permanently at 8:50 of the third, once again, just moments after a power play had ended. Liam Pecararo feathered a pass circle-to-circle for Terao to blast into the net from the left ring. Then with 14.1 seconds to go, Niko Hildenbrand secured the win by banking a chance off the boards and into an empty net from 170 feet with 14.1 seconds remaining.
Tickets are still available for the Black Hawks' annual Thanksgiving game against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Thursday. The first 1,000 fans on hand for the 6:05 p.m. matchup will receive half of the Hawks' 2015/16 trading card set, presented by Martin Brothers Food Market.
