November 25, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
Muskegon, MI - It took over 60 minutes, but the Muskegon Lumberjacks (8-7) were able to pick up their sixth win in seven games, with a 2-1 overtime victory against the Youngstown Phantoms (8-6-3).
After 20 minutes of play, the game remained scoreless. Lumberjacks goaltender Joey Daccord made eight saves, while the Youngstown Phantoms goaltender, Ryan Bednard, stopped all 12 shots in the first frame.
The Lumberjacks started the second period with back-to-back power play opportunities, but were unable to take advantage. After killing a penalty of their own, Lumberjacks defenseman, Graham Lillibridge scored his first career USHL goal to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead. Rem Pitlick and Trevor Hamilton recorded the assists on the goal, and the Lumberjacks took the one goal lead into the locker room after two periods.
The Phantoms attacked the Lumberjacks from every angle in the third period, creating many scoring chances, but unable to get one past Daccord. However, with 90 seconds to go in the game, the Phantoms pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, and Cameron Morrison scored to force overtime.
The Lumberjacks only needed 45 seconds to win their fourth consecutive overtime game. Pitlick was taken down on a breakaway, and given a penalty shot opportunity to win the game. The Lumberjacks leading scorer netted his seventh of the season, and the Lumberjacks picked up the 2-1 overtime victory.
The Lumberjacks (8-7) look to continue their winning ways when they return home for a weekend series against the Tri-City Storm. Be sure to make it out to L.C. Walker arena Friday, for dollar beer dollar dog night, and Saturday for Red Wings Night. Puck drop is at 7:15 P.M.
