Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa - On Friday, November 13, the Dubuque Fighting Saints hosted Military Appreciation Night, sponsored by Kwik Stop/Dairy Queen/Fazoli's, at the Mystique Community Ice Center. The combined totals of the postgame camouflage jersey auction, and the silent auction item, raised over $13,500 to benefit the Veteran's Freedom Center in Dubuque. The camouflage jerseys were provided by the Dubuque County Commission of Veterans Affairs.
The Veteran's Freedom Center is a non-profit organization that meets the needs of active duty, reserve, and honorably discharged veterans in the Tri-State area. The center provides a full woodworking shop, a computer station, and several leisure activities to promote camaraderie between veterans.
"The turnout for the auction was tremendous," said Matt Rau, Vice President of Business Operations. "As an organization, along with the help of Kwik Stop, Dairy Queen and Fazoli's, we wanted to support our veterans, because without their service, we would not be able to do what we do, and for that, we are thankful."
The Dubuque Fighting Saints defeated the Madison Capitols on the night, 6-3.
The Fighting Saints take on the Green Bay Gamblers tonight at the Resch Center in Green Bay starting at 7:05 p.m. Tune in on Dubuque's Super Hits 106.1 FM, or by watching the USHL Game of the Week free in HD at FASTHockey.com.
They will return home to face the Chicago Steel on Saturday, November 28 at a special holiday weekend start time of 6:05 p.m. for the Celebration of No-Shave November Night. The event, sponsored by UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital, features special jerseys to be auctioned off to benefit the Finley Health Foundation and the Wendt Regional Cancer Center, raising awareness and funds for men's cancer initiatives.
