Waterloo, Iowa - Patriotic jerseys worn by the Waterloo Black Hawks earlier this month raised nearly $7,000 for the Sullivan-Hartogh-Davis Post 730 Honor Flight, the team announced Wednesday.
Hockey fans bidding on the star-spangled sweaters after Waterloo's Veteran's Day Weekend game against the Lincoln Stars on November 14th contributed to a donation of $6,948. Sullivan-Hartogh-Davis Post 730 Honor Flight is dedicated to sending local World War II and Korean War veterans to Washington D.C. to visit various historical sites and war memorials. Hundreds of heroes from these conflicts have had the opportunity to visit the nation's capital during the 14 Honor Flights originating from Waterloo since 2011.
"At this time when we reflect on the many reasons we have to feel blessed, the Black Hawks organization is thankful for the opportunity to contribute to this remarkable program," said Black Hawks Vice President of Business Operations Joe Greene.
The special jerseys were sponsored by American Pattern and CNC Works. The company was founded in 1994, and has expanded to serve a variety of industrial customers with leading-edge pattern and casting services. American Pattern has also been a consistent supporter of the Sullivan-Hartogh-Davis Post 730 Honor Flight.
The Hawks return to home ice Thursday for their annual Thanksgiving matchup against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Tickets for the game are still available online or by calling the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680. The puck drops at 6:05 p.m.
