Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms fell to the Muskegon Lumberjacks in overtime Wednesday night by a final score of 2-1. Rem Pitlick scored the game winning goal for the Lumberjacks with a penalty shot.
"In the third period we rallied and the guys showed what they are capable of, we need that effort for a full game on Friday," said Phantoms Head Coach John Wroblewski.
Both teams were held scoreless for the first half on the contest, until Graham Lillibridge's first goal of the season gave Muskegon the lead with less than five minutes left in the second period.
Youngstown would carry play most of the third period, and finally get on the board with less than 90 seconds left in regulation. Cam Morrison was able to tie the game after coming on as the extra attacker when goaltender Ryan Bednard was pulled. Morrison found the back of the net on a feed from Lukas Craggs to force overtime.
Overtime was short lived however, as Rem Pitlick was awarded a penalty shot less than a minute into extra time. Pitlick was able to beat Bednard with a wrist shot to win the game for the Lumberjacks.
A pair of Phantoms played their first ever home games in Youngstown tonight, as Noah Lalonde and Ty Amonte saw their first action at the Covelli Centre. It was the first career USHL game for Amonte.
"It was a faster game than what I am usually used to playing in, guys are a little bit bigger and stronger, but after the first few shifts I think I got comfortable with the pace," Amonte said.
The Phantoms will be back in action at the Covelli Centre Friday, November 27, as the USANTDP U-18 team comes to Youngstown. It will be the Phantoms Happier Holidays game presented by Eastwood Mall, where all fans in attendance will have a chance to win a $1,000 gift card to Eastwood Mall.
