Indianapolis Indians News Release
PAPILLION, NEB. - The Indianapolis Indians lost their fifth consecutive game in shutout fashion against the Omaha Storm Chasers on Friday night, 3-0. With the Indians loss, Omaha has clinched a series win with two games still remaining in the six-game set.
Omaha (14-7) jumped out to an early lead in the third inning with back-to-back singles from Alcides Escobar and Edward Olivares and a two-out RBI single from Emmanuel Rivera. That's all it took for the Storm Chasers to seal the win as Omaha's pitching shut down Indy's offense.
The Indians (11-10) threatened with one out in the the top of the fifth inning with their only two hits of the game, singles by Andrew Susac and Anthony Alford, but Jackson Kowar (W, 5-0) retired the next two batters and stranded both runners on.
With one out in the top of the seventh, the Indians had one more chance to strike with the bases loaded following walks to Susac, Alford and Ethan Paul, but relief pitcher Jace Vines struck out the top of the order to escape the jam unscathed.
With a home run over the left field fence for Ryan McBroom off Kyle Keller, the Storm Chasers tacked on one more in the bottom of the eighth inning to extend their lead to 3-0.
Steven Wright (L, 1-1) took his first loss of the season after giving up two runs on six hits with five strikeouts. Austin Davis entered the game in the sixth inning and threw 1.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
The Indians continue the series vs. the Storm Chasers Saturday night at 8:05 PM ET. RHP Beau Sulser (2-1, 3.78) will take the mound for Indy while Omaha has yet to name a starting pitcher.
