IronPigs lose two on Saturday

(Allentown, PA) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (13-10) dropped both games by a score of 4-2 to the Worcester Red Sox (14-9) on Saturday night. The WooSox were able to score runs late to break ties in both games.

Game 1

The IronPigs were able to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning against Raynel Espinal (3-1) as Ruben Tejada hit an RBI single to score Travis Jankowski. Franchy Cordero gave Worcester a 2-1 lead against Julian Garcia (0-1) in the top of the fourth inning by hitting a two-run home run that scored Michael Chavis.

Matt Moore made a rehab start for Lehigh Valley and struck out five batters over three innings before passing the ball over to Garcia. Sal Gozzo hit an RBI double against Espinal to score Jack Conley in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2. The double for Gozzo was his first hit of the season for the IronPigs.

Josh Ockimey broke the 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh inning when he hit a two-run home run against Garcia to give Worcester a 4-2 lead. Enyel De Los Santos came to pitch in relief of Garcia and struck out both batters he faced. Brandon Workman retired the side in the bottom of the seventh inning to record his first save of season.

Game 2

Ryan Cordell homered against Daniel Gossett (3-1) in the bottom of the second inning to get the IronPigs on the scoreboard on the first, 1-0. The home run for Cordell was his fifth of the season. Edgar Cabral followed with an RBI double that scored C.J. Chatham to give the Pigs a 2-0 lead.

Bailey Falter struck out nine batters over 4 2/3 innings for the IronPigs. The nine strikeouts for Falter were a season-best for an IronPigs pitcher.

The WooSox scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Damon Jones (0-1) walked the bases loaded before Jeff Singer came to pitch in relief. Michael Gettys walked in a run that was followed by a sacrifice fly from Jack Lopez. Jett Bandy hit a go-ahead two-run single to give Worcester a 4-2 lead.

Brady Lail made his IronPigs debut. He pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning. Kevin McCarthy got the save for Worcester as he closed out the bottom of the seventh inning.

The IronPigs and WooSox wrap up their series on Sunday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
