Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY - Tony Santillan whiffed nine and Errol Robinson scored in the bottom of the eighth to pull the Louisville Bats within one run, but the comeback stalled as the Toledo Mud Hens outlasted the Bats 4-3 on Saturday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
Ace Santillan set a season high with nine punchouts and matched his season high by working 6.0 innings in his no-decision. He surrendered three runs on six hits, including a homer to Yariel Gonzalez, en route to authoring a quality start for the second time in his last three appearances. With the strong showing, the Reds' No. 9 prospect has logged a 2.49 ERA with 32 strikeouts over 25.1 innings of work for the Bats.
Louisville backed its starter along the way with a home run in the first inning from Cheslor Cuthbert and an RBI double in the fourth from Alfredo Rodriguez. Rodriguez finished 2-for-4 Saturday to extend his hitting streak to five straight games and pick up his 13th hit of the last 10 contests.
Toledo scored what proved to be the winning run on an error at third base in the seventh inning. Isaac Paredes smoked a ball to the left side of the infield and the Bats were unable to corral the grounder, which allowed Daz Cameron to cross home to give the Mud Hens a 4-2 lead.
Robinson then tripled to open the eighth and scored on a wild pitch to pull Louisville within 4-3, but the comeback stalled as Robbie Ross Jr. retired the ninth in order to pick up a save for Toledo.
The Bats and Mud Hens wrap up their series Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. at Slugger Field. Right-hander Ashton Goudeau (1-0, 2.79) returns to the Bats' rotation to take on RHP Wily Peralta (1-0, 3.55).
