Louisville Bats News Release
Julian Aguiar allowed four runs in the first inning as the Cubs snagged the early lead. Chas McCormick's three-run homer highlighted the big inning for the visitors.
Louisville didn't waste any time responding in the second inning. Michael Chavis smashed a two-run homer, and Hector Rodriguez walked with the bases loaded to bring the Bats within a run.
The I-Cubs unloaded on Aguiar in the third, with homers from Pedro Ramirez and Christian Bethancourt which scored four runs and ended Aguiar's evening after three innings.
The Bats answered quickly, beginning with another Chavis homer in the third. In the fourth, back-to-back doubles from Rece Hinds and JJ Bleday scored two runs. A Christian Encarnacion-Strand single and a series of subsequent errors scored two more runs to tie the game at eight after four innings.
After each team scored a run on a wild pitch in the fifth, Bethancourt hit his second homer of the game in the seventh to give Iowa an 11-9 lead.
Arroyo tripled in a run to begin the bottom of the ninth, but he was stranded at third base as three straight Bats struck out to end the game.
Blake Dunn extended his on-base and hitting streak to 35 and 18 games, respectively, with three hits and his team-leading third stolen base. Chavis recorded his first two-homer game since April 16, 2024, while he was a member of the Seattle Mariners' Triple-A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers. JJ Bleday knocked three doubles in five at-bats with two runs scored and an RBI.
