Buffalo Bisons News Release
PAPILLION, NE - The Buffalo Bisons late-game comeback fell two runs short in their 9-7 loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers on Thursday night at Werner Park.
The Bisons answered a four-run bottom of the seventh inning by Omaha with a four-run top of the eighth two get within a pair. It was as close as the team would get before Mason Black would secure the save for the Storm Chasers.
Buffalo fell behind early when Omaha scored three times in the bottom of the first inning against Grant Rogers. However, a solo home run by Brandon Valenzuela helped get the Bisons on the scoreboard. The team trailed 3-1 on Valenzuela's first home run of the season.
A two-run home run by Eloy Jimenez an inning later trimmed Buffalo's deficit to 4-3. Carlos Mendoza led off the inning with a walk and scored on Jimenez's first homer of the year. After a giving up a run in the bottom of the fifth and four more in the last of the seventh, Buffalo's deficit ballooned to 9-3.
But the Bisons would bat around in the top of the eighth and immediately respond against Omaha. Jimenez led off the inning with a single and was pinch run for by Ryan McCarty. He scored on a bases loaded walk to Josh Rivera. Charles McAdoo scored to cut the deficit to 9-5 thanks to a Mendoza infield base hit. Two more runs scored after Jonatan Clase lined a base hit to left-center field. It scored Josh Kasevich and Rivera. The Storm Chasers lead dwindled to 9-7.
However, Mason Black was able to record the final four outs to preserve the victory. McAdoo was able to extend his hitting streak to four straight games with a single in the top of the ninth inning. Kasevich's hitting streak has reached five games after he doubled to left field in the top of the second inning, as well.
The Bisons and Omaha will meet for game four of their-six game series at 7:35 p.m. EDT on Friday night. Veteran right-hander Austin Voth is scheduled to start for Buffalo. Pregame coverage on The Bet 1520 AM, the Audacy app, and Bisons.com starts at 7:15 p.m. EDT with the 'Voice of the Bisons' Pat Malacaro.
