Durham Bulls News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Bulls catcher Deivy Grullon smashed three hits, including a home run, while designated hitter Joseph Odom also left the yard as Durham won their eighth consecutive contest in an 8-1 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Saturday night at 121 Financial Ballpark.
During their eight-game win streak, which dates back to May 21, Durham has outscored their opponents 57-23. The Bulls have also outscored Jacksonville 38-7 thus far over the first five games of this six-game series. Durham pitchers have also allowed just two runs over their last 42 innings dating back to May 25.
SS Vidal Brujan began the scoring via an RBI single in the second before RF Nathan Lukes bashed a two-run double to center to extend the advantage to three. Jacksonville scored their single tally in the third before Odom went deep in the sixth with an opposite field blast to right, his second big fly of the year to make it 5-1. One frame later, LF Dalton Kelly opened the margin back to five with an RBI single. Grullon put the exclamation point on the night with a mammoth two-run shot in the ninth.
All nine hitters in the Bulls batting order recorded at least one hit. Grullon (3-5, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) was joined by Brujan (2-5, RBI), Kelly (2-4, 2B, RBI, BB) and CF Ryan Boldt (2-5, R, 2B) in posting multi-hit efforts.
Durham right-hander David Hess (3.0 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 2 K) earned the win with three innings of relief. Jumbo Shrimp starter Braxton Garrett (5.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to complete their six-game series on Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville, with first pitch scheduled for 3:05pm ET. RHP Adrian De Horta (0-1, 6.00) is expected to start the series finale for the Bulls, while the Jumbo Shrimp are anticipated to send RHP Josh A. Smith (0-0, 5.79) to the hill.
The Bulls are set to return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, June 1 to start a six-game homestand versus the Norfolk Tides. First pitch of that series is scheduled for 6:35pm ET. Tickets for that series, as well as for Durham's six-game homestand with Charlotte between June 8-13, are now available at durhambulls.com.
