
Stingrays Take Down Solar Bears on College Night and Teddy Bear Toss

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (17-3-1-2) defeated the Orlando Solar Bears (14-10-0-1) 2-1 on College Night and Teddy Bear Toss for Debi's Kids at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday evening. The Stingrays collected over 3,650 stuffed animals to donate to Debi's Kids and the Salvation Army.
Stingrays forward Igor Gongalsky sent the teddy bears flying with his second goal of the season at 6:25 of the first period lifting a pass from defenseman Jeremy Price past Solar Bears goaltender Garret Sparks (L, 24 saves on 26 shots) from the left-wing circle. Forward Wayne Simpson added the second assist.
Forward Lindsay Sparks gave the Stingrays a two-goal lead at 10:55 of the second period firing a shot over the glove of Sparks from the top of the left-wing circle. Forward Parker Stanfield picked up the lone assist.
The Solar Bears pulled the game within one on the power play at 1:51 of the third period when forward Francis Verreault-Paul knocked a bouncing puck over the right pad of Stingrays netminder Jeff Jakaitis (W, 21 saves on 22 shots). The Stingrays finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play while the Solar Bears went 1-for-6.
The Stingrays battle their in-state rival, the Greenville Road Warriors, tomorrow, Sunday, December 15 at 3:05 p.m. on Kid's Day and Children's Museum of the Lowcountry Day at the North Charleston Coliseum.
