Stingrays Receive Defenseman Steve Spinell from Providence; Add Forward Paul Rodrigues and Defensema

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that the team received defenseman Steve Spinell from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL), received forward Paul Rodrigues on loan from the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey Leauge (SPHL) and signed defenseman Brendan Rempel.

Spinell, 23, appeared in one contest with the Bruins recording no points. A rookie this season, the Vernon Hills, Illinois, native buried five points (1 goal, 4 assists) in 21 contests with the Stingrays. Prior to turning pro, Spinell completed a four-year collegiate career at Miami University (Ohio) totaling 36 points (4 goals, 32 assists) in 149 games and served as team captain his senior year.

Rodrigues, 25, has 26 points (5 goals, 21 assists) in 20 games with the Ice Flyers this season. Currently in his first professional campaign, the Etobicoke, Ontario, native totaled 133 points (50 goals, 83 assists) in 112 contests over four seasons at SUNY-Oswego.

Rempel, 22, skated in one game with the Evansville IceMen (ECHL) this season picking up two penalty minutes and dressed in five games with the ECHL's Trenton Titans last season netting two assists after attending Harvard University for four seasons alongside Stingrays defenseman Ryan Grimshaw. With the Crimson, the Willington, Connecticut, product registered one goal and 10 assists in 81 games.

The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum tonight, Saturday, December 14 to take on the Orlando Solar Bears at 7:05 p.m. on College Night and Teddy Bear Toss benefiting Debi's Kids.

The Stingrays will wear special Clemson University jerseys and auction them LIVE after the contest. Charleston native and "Survivor: One World" finalist Chelsea Meissner will drop the ceremonial first puck. Bring a new or gently used stuffed animal to the game to throw on the ice after the Stingrays score their first goal for the annual Teddy Bear Toss!
