North Charleston, SC - Travis Morin notched his first goal of the season, a game winning goal in overtime, to give the South Carolina Stingrays a 3-2 win over the Florida Everblades at the North Charleston Coliseum tonight.

"For lack of a better word we looked a little sloppy," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "But against a team like Florida this is definitely a big two points."

The first period was a back and forth affair from the get go. After killing off an early penalty, the Stingrays got the majority of chances in the first five minutes of the game. It wasn't until 16:26 that they were able to get on the board on a broken play by Maxime Lacroix. It was the second goal of the season by Lacroix and was assisted by both of his line mates, Michael Dubuc and Travis Morin.

In the second period things got much more physical after the Rays took a 2-0 lead. Paul Kelly slammed home a rebound past David Leggio at 6:19 of the period, his second goal of the season. The assists on the goal went to Stevbe Pinizzotto and Nate Kiser. Just over three minutes later the Everblades would get on the board on Ernie Hartlieb's third goal of the season at 9:25 making it a 2-1 game after two periods of play.

The lone goal in the third period came on the power play by Jonathon Paiement to tie the game up at two. After a five minute major to Zach Tarkir for kneeing, Paiement got a pass from Ross Carlson on the back door and put it behind Josh Johnson. Even after an extended five on three for the Rays, the score remained knotted up at the end of regulation.

In overtime, the first overtime game of the season for the Stingrays, Morin scored on a power play goal from Sasha Pokulok and Johan Kroll to win the game. Pokulok fed a perfect pass to Morin who put it past Leggio for the game winner at 4:00 of the overtime period.

The winning goaltender was Johnson who stopped 42 of the 44 shots that he faced. The losing goaltender was Leggio who stoped 28 of the 31 shots he faced. The Rays went one for eight on the power play while killing off five of the six short handed situations they faced.
