Checkers Haunt Lynx, Win 5-0

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers played their first home game of the season at Time Warner Cable Arena and gave their home fans something to cheer about as they defeated the Augusta Lynx by a score of 5-0.

It didn't take long for the Checkers to get the crowd on their feet when the team scored a power play goal after Peter Tsimikalis blasted a point shot that fooled Augusta netminder Riku Helenius at 1:43. The Checkers took a 2-0 lead when Julien Brouillette fired a shot over the glove of Helenius at 7:01. Another power play goal would put the Checkers up 3-0 when Matthew Ford cleaned up a rebound point shot by Brouillette at 7:59.

The Checkers extended their lead when Andreas Jamtin was the beneficieary of a lucky bounce right in front of the Lynx net as the puck flipped right to an unknowing Helenius making it easy for Jamtin to slam it home at 1:07.

Jeff Miles would add another goal in the third frame as he beat the Lynx netminder between the legs at 5:35 extending the lead to 5-0 and this is the way the game would end. Jeff Jakaitis would secure the shutout as he has won all four games he has played this season.
