Checkers Shut Out Lynx 5-0

CHARLOTTE, NC - Jeff Jakaitis made 22 saves and Charlotte got goals from five different skaters as the Checkers shut out the Lynx (3-3-1) 5-0 at Time Warner Cable Arena on Friday evening. Ryan Murphy added three assists for Charlotte.

The Checkers took advantage of the special teams, scoring three power play goals and adding a short handed tally. Charlotte scored three times in the opening period including a 5 on 3 power play goal by Peter Tsimikalis 1:43 into the game to make it 1-0. Charlotte followed with two goals 58 seconds apart as Julien Brouillete and Matthew Ford converted past Riku Helenius to make it 3-0 Checkers after one period.

A short handed goal by Andreas Jamtin 1:07 into the second period gave Charlotte a 4-0 lead and Jeff Miles racked up a power play goal in the third to give the Checkers the 5-0 win.

Charlotte out shot the Lynx 31-22. Augusta finished 0 for 6 on the power play while Charlotte finished 3 for 10.

Augusta concludes the seven game road trip on Wednesday night in Biloxi, Mississippi against the Sea Wolves. Game time is 8 p.m. ET.
