Bombers Drop First Game of the Season, 6-1

Wheeling, W.Va. - The Dayton Bombers fell behind early and never recovered, falling at Wheeling 6-1 Friday night.

The high-scoring Nailers got on the board at the 8:43 mark of the first with a power play goal by Jordan Morrison. Goals by Tommy Goebel and Bryan Ewing followed to make it 3-0 after one, the Bombers having been out-shot 17-5.

Coach Bill McDonald pulled starting goalie David Shantz after the first period, replacing him with Paul Drew in his first action as a Dayton Bomber. Wheeling managed only one goal in the second period at the 7:21 mark by league-leading scorer Goebel.

In the third period, the Nailers added power-play goals by Nick Johnson and Tobias Holm to make it 6-0. Dayton's only goal came at the 16:32 mark of the third when Dan Riedel got his fifth goal of the year on a power-play to keep his streak of having scored in each game intact. Jarret Lukin and Greg Labenski got assists as the final was 6-1. Dayton was outshot for the game 31-30.

The Bombers are home tomorrow night at 7:30 against Cincinnati for Scout Night and the Schedule Poster Giveaway at the Nutter Center. Tickets are available at the Nutter Center box office or www.ticketmaster.com
