Stingrays Add Forward Brock Higgs from Reading Royals

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 22 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry, acquired forward Brock Higgs from the Reading Royals of the ECHL in exchange for future considerations, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.

Higgs, 22, dressed in 11 games with the Royals this season netting four points (one goal, three assists). The Kingston, Ontario, native is currently in his first full professional season after completing a four-year collegiate career at R.P.I. totaling 91 points (27 goals, 64 assists) in 137 games, served as team captain last season and earned a Hobey Baker Award nomination for the nation's best college hockey player. Following his senior year, Higgs skated in 16 games with the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League (AHL) adding three goals and three assists for six points.

During his freshman year at R.P.I., the 5-foot-11, 185-pound forward grabbed national headlines after suffering a terrible accident when his throat and neck came in contact with a teammate's skate. He made a full recovery and was named the team's Rookie of the Year. The following season, Higgs led the Engineers with 23 points (three goals, 20 assists) in 34 games.

The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum tomorrow, Saturday, November 29 at 3:05 p.m. against the Gwinnett Gladiators. Celebrate Thanksgiving with the Stingrays!
