November 28, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - In the second of nine head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season and the first tilt of a two-game weekend series, the Indy Fuel battled to the bitter end in a thrilling 3-2 defeat to the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday at the Fairgrounds Coliseum. With the loss, the Fuel fell to 3-9-2-2 overall this season and with ten points, remain alone in seventh place in the ECHL's North Division standings.
After a strong start to the opening period, the Fuel struck first on Friday as Garett Bembridge hammered home his first goal as a member of the Fuel at 7:59 thanks to transition feeds from Mike Duco and Justin Holl. Cincinnati scraped an equalizer past Fuel goaltender Mac Carruth at 11:55 however, to send the Cyclones into the first intermission tied at one with Indy.
Early in the second and third periods, Cincinnati accumulated a 3-1 lead thanks to back-to-back even-strength scores from Zach Budish and David Pacan, but Rhett Bly gave the Fuel hope at 15:38 of the third with his fourth goal of the season, a streaking power-play marker, assisted by Robert Czarnik, that drew Indy within a goal at 3-2. Despite 29 saves from Fuel goaltender Mac Carruth, the Cyclones weathered multiple third-period Indy power-plays behind 22 Rob Modare saves to hang on for a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
Next up for the Fuel, it's a Saturday rematch with the Cyclones with the opening faceoff set for 7:35 pm at the Fairgrounds Coliseum on Movember "Shave the Date" Night. The first 2,000 moustache-free ticket holders through the gates on Saturday will receive a complimentary faux 'stache and a portion of the evening's proceeds will go to the Movember Foundation to help "Change the face of men's health." Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at Ticketmaster.com or at the Fairgrounds Coliseum box office during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Full television coverage of Saturday's game begins at 7:30 pm on HTSN with Jim Mirabello on the call, while radio coverage gets underway with the "Jose Cuervo Pregame Show" at 7:20 pm on CBS Sports 1430 WXNT-AM with Fuel broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
