Black Out Black Friday

A tradition made famous in the NHL that has transcended hockey and made it's way to other sports is the "White/Black out". Tonight we encourage all fans to wear black to the game. Black jerseys, black sweatshirts, black t-shirts, etc... will show your support to the Thunder as they take on the Grizzlies tonight.

Last Time Out

The Thunder were looking for their fourth straight win and their sixth straight win against the Condors, and while the game was held scoreless in the first by Shane Owen and Bakersfield's Frans Tuohimaa, it didn't stay that way long. Tyler Maxwell scored in the first minute of the second period following up a Peter Sivak deke and just putting the puck behind the goalie and Condors defenseman for his team leading seventh goal of the season.

However Nick MacNeil scored a little over six minutes later to tie the game and then two power-play goals from the Condors gave them the two-goal lead. The Condors added another early in the third before Roberts Lipsbergs brought the Thunder back to within two with his first pro goal as he followed up an Adam Phillips shot and put the rebound behind Tuohimaa. The Thunder would unfortunately not be able to come back though as Jonthan Lessard added an empty netter at the end to end the Thunder's win streak.

Tonight

The Thunder take on the Utah Grizzlies a day after Thanksgiving at Stockton Arena in game number four of the current tied longest seven-game homestand. So far the Thunder are 2-1-0 in the first three games of the extended stay and are coming off of a loss that snapped their three-game winning streak and three-game home winning streak. It was just the third loss on home ice this season.

The Thunder have hosted the Grizzlies once this season as the teams headed to the shootout back on Friday, November 7 with the Thunder completing the comeback and winning the game in the shootout. Tyler Maxwell was the lone goal scorer of the shootout while Prab Rai's short-handed goal and Austin Levi's power-play goal tied the game up in the second period. Former Thunder defenseman Marc Cantin scored against his former team on the power play.

Who to Watch

He's getting the start today for the first time since November 14 but the man to watch tonight is Philippe Trudeau. The Canadian keeper won his first pro game in his first start for the Thunder this season, but since then has fallen in four-straight games.

The 6'6" goalie will look to get his season and his numbers back on track against the Utah team who is just a single point ahead of the Thunder in the standings.

Ch-ch-changes

Alex Mallet joins the team ahead of tonight's game after being acquired by the Islanders on Tuesday along with a third round pick in 2016 in exchange for former Thunder defenseman Andrey Pedan. Mallet is a former second round pick by the Vancouver Canucks and while his AHL numbers aren't terribly impressive, the forward has 38 points in 56 games with the Kalamazoo Wings including 9 points in 12 games this season.

Mallet isn't the only player coming in to the lineup as returning from injury today could be Thunder captain Garet Hunt who was activated off the IR on Thanksgiving. Garet picked up an injury on 11/1 in Idaho and has missed the last 10 games.

Injury Update

The Thunder's leading scorer Tyler Maxwell could miss tonight's game with a lower-body injury after he took a hit from a Condors player that left the Manhattan Beach, California native hurting in the last game.

Not only does this hurt because Maxwell is the leading scorer on the team (he has points in his last four) but he also scored the only goal in the skills competition against the Grizzlies earlier this month. Coach Kromm has said the winger is day-to-day and his status for tonight is not known.

Streaks are made to be broken

The Thunder had their three-game winning streak and three-game winning streak at Stockton Arena snapped on Wednesday by the hands of the Bakersfield Condors.

An individual streak was also snapped as Lukas Sutter was held without a penalty for the first time since 10/25. He had gone 12 straight games with at least a minor penalty. Peter Sivak has been the penalty guy as of late as he has minor penalties in five-straight games dating back to 11/16.
